We are asking our supporters to email Naples City Council today to help protect the Naples Pride Festival and other special events in the City of Naples.
The cost of holding special events in the City continues to rise, creating real challenges for the nonprofits and community organizations that host them.
Now is an important time to speak up.
The City is asking for public input on its Naples 2045 Comprehensive Plan, which will help
guide City decisions for years to come. The draft already recognizes “diverse special events” as one of the features that makes Naples special. It also appropriately calls for balancing special events with the comfort and convenience of residents.
We agree, but we believe the Plan should reflect both sides of that balance.
As the cost and difficulty of hosting special events in the City increase, nonprofit and community organizations can be priced out. For nonprofits, every additional dollar spent on City-related event costs is a dollar that cannot be invested back into the community we serve.
We are asking the City to include a broader commitment in Naples 2045 to support and preserve a diverse range of community and special events and provide reasonable and equitable opportunities for nonprofit, charitable, cultural, and community organizations to host them.
The Comprehensive Plan does not need to set specific fees or permitting requirements. But it does establish the principles that should guide those decisions in the future.
